Local Chapters
In addition to our online business network, your membership also includes membership in a local chapter. Here's the scoop on local chapters:
- Function
- Purpose
- Organization
- Rules
- Starting up a local Chapter
Organization:
Local chapters, loosely formed around municipalities, will consist of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Social Chairman and Membership Chairman. At the highest level of the organization will be the “executive committee” located within the HQ. The positions are President, Vice President, Treasurer, Social Chairman and Membership Chairman. Chapters will have regularly scheduled and structured meetings. The executive committee will meet as need arises. The chapter President will facilitate the meetings. The meeting will begin with introductions of members and guests. All members and guests will pass out their business cards and have roughly 30 seconds (at the discretion of the Pres.) to address the membership in turn. Members should mention their name, what they did in the Marine Corps, then talk about what they do professionally.
Then each officer will give their report.
Next, the floor will be opened for new business and then old business.
Next, members will have roughly 30 seconds (at the discretion of the President) to address the membership in turn. Members should mention their name, talk about what they do and what they need from the group. (i.e., in the case of a business owner he/she would describe their product/services and what a good “lead/client” would be for them.) In the case of a Marine who is looking for employment, etc., they would mention what type of employment they are looking for, etc.
In some instances, guest speakers, both from within the group, and outside, may address the members with the purpose of education.
Meeting Rules:
For the sake of brevity, good order, and mission accomplishment, members will demonstrate respect for each other and their Officers. Members will make a concerted effort to make new members feel welcome and greet them as they come aboard.
- When speaking, other members will not interrupt.
- Cell phone ringers will be turned off.
- We are not a “secret society” but meetings are an opportunity for Marines to be Marines, therefore what transpires in the meetings, stays in the meetings.
- Members will demonstrate good taste and decorum at all times and will not particicpate in behavior that detracts from the good name and works of the membership.
- Like any group effort, the more one puts in, the more they will get out.
While prior rank and service is always respected, all members of the National Marine Corps Business Network are of the same rank…Marine.
- Like the Corps, the emphasis is on the quality of members, not necessarily the quantity. Meaning, being a member is a privilege, not a right.
